Sun Metro, the city's mass transit department, offers El Paso a viable and affordable option for commuters who are not only looking to get around town, but also looking to save money, reduce their carbon footprint, or reduce America's dependency on foreign oil.
Powered primarily by compressed natural gas, Sun Metro provides fixed route, paratransit and other specialized transportation services for the more than 700,000 citizens of El Paso County. Job Express, a specialized Sun Metro service, offers support to those individuals transitioning from welfare to work through transportation to job training, education, employment and childcare destinations.
Sun Metro welcomed riders to its state-of-the-art Bert Williams Downtown Santa Fe Transfer Center in fall 2009 and will complete the Westside, Mission Valley and Glory Road transfer centers throughout 2010. Other current and future projects include the installation of new solar-powered bus shelters, the rehabilitation of existing terminals, construction of the new Northeast and Far Eastside transfer centers, and a bus rapid transit system along the Alameda, Mesa, Montana and Dyer corridors.
Sun Metro is continuously working to meet our expanding community's growing demands for improved, attractive and high-quality transit services that keep our border community moving forward.
